Freevy vs aBreevy8 (Breevy)

Breevy is now called aBreevy8 and is still developed and sold, with a 14-day trial. Freevy started as a free alternative to it: it imports your Breevy or aBreevy8 library on first start, including folders, settings and typo-correction lists, and understands the same %(...) macros, from dates to %(Key Shift+Enter). On top it adds free end-to-end encrypted sync and password-protected snippets, and its source is open. If you keep aBreevy8, quit it before starting Freevy so abbreviations do not expand twice.

Freevy vs TextExpander

TextExpander runs on more platforms, including Mac, Chrome and mobile, and has team features such as shared snippet libraries and admin controls. Its free plan allows 5 active snippets; unlimited snippets start at $5 per user per month. Freevy has no snippet limit and no subscription, and its sync is end-to-end encrypted, but it is Windows only and has no team sharing yet. Freevy imports the CSV file TextExpander exports for a snippet group.

Freevy vs PhraseExpress

PhraseExpress is free for personal use and sold as a one-time license for business, with editions for SQL Server and phrase sharing in larger companies. It has far more automation features than Freevy. Freevy is free for business use too, and its source is open, so anyone can check what it does with what you type.

Freevy vs Espanso

Espanso is open source like Freevy and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. Snippets live in YAML files, which developers love and many other people find hard. Freevy keeps everything in an app with search, folders and bulk editing, and adds encrypted sync and password-protected snippets without any configuration files. Freevy imports your Espanso match files, including their triggers, cursor and date variables.

Freevy vs Beeftext

Beeftext is a free, open source text expander for Windows with a simple app. Its latest release, 16.0, came out in December 2022. Freevy covers the same ground and adds sync between computers, scheduled backups, protected snippets and Breevy compatibility, with regular updates. Freevy imports your Beeftext combos with their groups.
