Terms of use
Last updated: Oct 20, 2026
1. Scope
These terms apply to the Freevy desktop app for Windows, the optional Freevy account with sync and online backup, and the web snippet manager at freevy.app (together "Freevy"). Freevy is offered by Ozan Kurt (see the imprint, "we", "us"). By downloading the app or creating an account you accept these terms. The privacy policy explains how we handle personal data.
2. What Freevy is
Freevy is a text expander: it replaces abbreviations you type with longer text. The app works on its own without an account. An account adds end-to-end encrypted sync between your computers, online backup with version history and, if you turn it on, access to your snippets from a browser. Freevy is currently free of charge. If we ever introduce paid features, we will tell you beforehand and nothing you already use for free will become paid without your consent.
3. Licence for the app
We grant you a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use the Freevy app on any number of your own computers, for private and business purposes. You may not sell the app, pass it off as your own or distribute modified copies. Mandatory rights under copyright law, for example to make backup copies or to decompile for interoperability (Section 69d and 69e of the German Copyright Act), are not affected.
4. Your account
- You must give a working email address and keep your account details current. One person per account.
- Keep your password and recovery key safe. Your data is end-to-end encrypted, so we cannot recover it or reset it for you if you lose both.
- Tell us without delay if you think someone else has access to your account. You can sign out all devices by changing your password.
5. Acceptable use
You are responsible for what you store in Freevy and for how you use it. In particular, you must not:
- use Freevy for anything unlawful or to store content you have no right to store,
- attack, overload or probe the service, try to access other people's accounts, or get around its limits,
- use the sync service as general file storage or for automated bulk uploads unrelated to text expansion.
Because we cannot see your content, we do not monitor it. If you break these rules, we may suspend or close your account after warning you, or without warning where the breach is serious or the law requires it.
6. Limits
Sync has fair-use limits on the number and size of items and on request rates, set so that normal use of a text expander never reaches them. Earlier versions of synced items are kept for 30 days.
7. Availability and changes
We work to keep sync available but cannot promise uninterrupted service; maintenance and faults may cause outages. The app keeps working offline during any outage. We may change, improve or discontinue features. If we discontinue sync, we will tell account holders at least 30 days in advance so you can export your data, and the app will keep working with your local snippets.
8. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in your account settings; this immediately deletes all synced data. We may end a free account with 30 days' notice by email, or immediately for good cause, such as a serious breach of these terms.
9. Liability
Freevy is provided free of charge. We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act and where we have fraudulently concealed a defect or given a guarantee. Otherwise we are not liable. Mandatory statutory liability is not affected.
A text expander inserts text into other programs. Check sensitive text before you send it, and keep backups of your snippets; the app can create them automatically and you can export them at any time.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the service or the law changes. We will email account holders about changes at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not object before then, the new terms apply; we will point out this consequence and your right to object in that email. If you object, you can keep using the app under the old terms, and either party may end the account.
11. Law and jurisdiction
The law of Germany applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not take away the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live. If you are a merchant, a legal entity under public law or have no general place of jurisdiction in Germany, the courts at our place of residence have jurisdiction.
12. Final provisions
If a provision of these terms is invalid, the rest remain valid. We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board. Questions about these terms: [email protected].
